All the rest areas that we stopped at along I-70 in Kansas worked well.

17th St. diner Goodland Kansas

September 14, 2012

We parked in back not in a handicap spot but it wasn't crowded at all. There were two bathrooms just inside the back door where we entered one of them said accessible, but both seemed okay to me. There is plenty of space to get around and the table worked well.

Chick fil a and West Ridge Mall – Topeka, KS

September 14, 2012

Okay parking basic parking for a mall and was easy enough to get inside the building. We walked for a while before seeing the sign about the elevator which we needed to take to get to the food court on the second floor. We had to walk and drive for what seemed like forever down the long hallway to get to the elevator and then when on the second floor we had to go quite a ways to get to the food court. Next to the food court were great bathrooms especially the family room. There were many good tables in the food court area.

Zarda barbecue - Lenexa, KS

September 13, 2012

Parking was good and had to cross the traffic lane. Inside was okay didn't have a ton of space but was okay. The bathroom was difficult to get into. There were two doors and I needed help holding both at the same time with the person holding the doors where I needed to drive.  Once we figured out how to get inside the stall was not big enough to get in. Everything else in the place was just about average.

World War I Museum Kansas City Missouri

September 13, 2012

There were quite a few handicap parking spots all with good loading zone.  There was a water fountain that you have to walk past and go downhill for quite a ways to get to the door. One of the doors had a handicap button on it. When we bought tickets my mom asked if the tower was accessible the lady said yes there is an elevator and then 28 steps to the top, so I guess not for wheelchairs. Everything else had quite a bit of space around it and I could get to most places the bathroom was a little weird shaped but it worked okay.

Not Wheelchair accessible to top of tower, there are 28 steps.

Kansas City barbecue store Olathe, Kansas

This place used to be right next to Oklahoma Joe's a few years ago, but moved to the other side of the shopping center. It had two storefronts with plenty of space around everything.  one side of the place was lower but there was a ramp to the lower section.

Oklahoma Joe's Olathe, KS

September 13, 2012

There were a couple handicap parking places fairly close but with small loading zones and you had to cross the traffic lane in the shopping center. The bathroom was great and had a ton of space. Some tables were picnic tables and some seats that were up a step or two. However there were plenty of wheelchair accessible tables that would work except when we were there it was packed and about every table was taken. We squeezed into a table for 2 with 3 of us. The counter where you order was kind of high and you have to fill your own drinks

Comfort suites Kansas City Kansas

September 12 and 13 2012

We stayed here a few years ago and it was very accessible so we returned. The elevator was a little worn since last time we were here.
The handicap room was on the second floor. The handicapped room had two Queen Beds and a roll in shower and was very spacious. It had a ton of space for all of our stuff. The hoyer lift was able to go under the bed which was great and made life a lot easier.
In the bathroom the roll in shower was very good. The sink was okay to get under but there was no room to have someone next to me to help me brush my teeth or whatever else.

RJ's Bob-Be-Que Shack -Mission Kansas

September 12, 2012

There were two handicap spots directly in front one was a van accessible spot. The parking spot was not flat and a little slanted which might not be ideal but it wasn't too difficult for me.  There was good spacing inside to get and our table worked great. The bathroom here is also good.

Drury Inn and Suites - St. Louis Missouri

September 7 through September 12

For our stay in St. Louis we stayed at the Drury Inn and suites in the Hill neighborhood, mostly because they supposedly had a room with two queens and roll in shower.   And it happened to be a nice central location for what we wanted to do.  Some of the time we parked in the parking garage underneath the hotel.  This wasn't a real big garage but there were some parking spots including two handicap spots in front of the door, one of them was a van accessible spot. For that door you had to use your room key to enter but it was close to the elevator. The elevator was nice and big and easy to turn around in, this elevator also talked by telling you if you're going up or down and what floor you are at. A Little down the hall from the elevator was our room, I think our room was on the 2nd floor.

With our past hotel experiences, even though the room was supposed to be two queens with a roll in shower, that was the first thing we checked to make sure that was right and it was. This was great that we didn't have to worry about the bed and shower situation.

This was not the most spacious room but there was more room than most hotels give you. There were multiple places where I could sit and watch TV or do whatever at the desk. There was a recliner and a little place to sit. There was kind of a hall from the door to the rest of the room which was nice to set stuff. In the bathroom the toilet had good enough space around it and worked fine.

The Sink was okay but I needed help turning on the faucet.

The roll in shower was great with the handheld showerhead, that happened to brake the first night during my shower but maintenance took care of it quickly the next day. There were quite a few handicap parking spots near all of the doors. The front door was easy to use since it has automatic doors and a ton of space in the front area of the hotel and the breakfast room, which I never made it down for. It was also really easy to get to the elevator from there as well.

City Coffeehouse & Crêperie Clayton, MO

September 12, 2012

There was a parking garage around the corner that was the closest place to park, it seemed like a low roof and it was kind of dark. This wasn't the greatest, but it worked. Once we walked around the corner it was easy to get in place. It was a little crowded where you order. The line goes toward the corner where there's not a ton of space to get back out of the line easily especially specially in a wheelchair. Our table worked fine. The bathroom is back in the same corner behind the line so you just about have to stand in the food line to get to the bathroom. When i got to the bathroom I had to drive past the door so someone could open it for me then I could backup a little and get in.

Ted Drewes frozen custard St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

I don't think there were any handicap spots. The bathroom was not very big and the handicapped stall was not big enough for me to get into. this is a walk-up custard place which is easy enough to get up to the window and order. There are no tables, you just have to stand or sit and eat the custard.

Mama Josephine's St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

You can't exactly park real close, but we parked down the street a bit. When we drove past it was like a bump at the door but when we got there I figured out that it was only on one side when we got to the door the other side looked like at some point they put some cement in to make it like a ramp to make it accessible. Inside just about any table would work well. The bathroom is right off the dining room and worked surprisingly well for an old building, maybe not the best bathroom but a lot better than I expected.

Missouri botanical Gardens St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

There were many handicap spots with plenty of room to unload from there it was easy to get to the main building. Inside was good there was plenty of room to easily navigate the building. In The bathroom right up front by the door there was one handicap stall that was not very big, but the sinks were easy to get to and use, this was just like the other bathrooms as well.

The garden part was rather large and we didn't come close to seeing everything.  Most of the trails and paths were wheelchair accessible, except a few places. There were also many benches and places to sit down. The gift shop was a little hard to get around in some places, but not any worse than most gift shops.

La Pizza St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

This is mostly a takeout pizza place with a few tables but it was not accessible for wheelchairs since there are two steps in front. I heard they had really good pizza so we ate it in the van which was quite an adventure and harder than I thought it would be, but sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

I didn't see much handicap parking but there was space to unload out always in the lot. There was a little bit of a bump at the door but I could get in. there was enough space inside and around the tables and just about everywhere. The table worked well for me. The bathroom is all the way back in the corner by the bar right behind where two or three staff members were standing when I got there, it was a little bit difficult to get there, but it was a really good bathroom when I got there and worked well.

Epic pizza and sub's St. Louis Missouri

September 9, 2012

I asked on Facebook before we went to make sure they were accessible they said they were I had to go through I tap which is next door. We parked in a parking spot about a block away It was not a handicap spot, but was at the end of the block where no one could parked next to it. This was Sunday night and was very easy to park since there wasn't a lot of traffic. When we arrived at the place my dad just went in and asked how we get in with a wheelchair since there are two steps in front. They said they would let next door know and someone would be out to let us in their patio gate.

In not too long someone came out and said the gate was locked and the only person had a key was the manager who was out of town. So this guy said he could help lift me to get in, but he didn't look like the type that could lift 600 pounds. Then he said there was a garage door in the back that we could get in. So we go down the sidewalk to the end of the block, then to get to the back alley for the garage door I either had to drive down the middle of the street or go through the rough grass. I chose the grass which was a little rough but there wasn't too much to go over.

When we get to the alley where sure enough there is a garage door which was quite easy to get through. After we got inside I saw the bathroom and figured it looks like I get in and might as well use it before I got stuck somewhere else. I tap and epic Share a bathroom which is in between them and surprisingly it was very accessible. everything worked great including a big stall and quite a bit of space throughout. Then we went into the epic pizza and subs part and there was a step down in, so I thought great what do we do now.  About that time the manager brought out a portable ramp which worked great. After this it was easy enough to get to the counter to order and they bring everything to you, your drink and food.

The was table so high that it was really awkward to eat off of, so I needed a lot of help eating like helping me get my drink and figure out how to get my burger to my mouth. There were a lot of things to deal with to eat at this place, but after the burger it was well worth it. On the way out we went out the other way to the other end of the block where there was a sidewalk, which would've been the way to go in the first place instead of through the grass.

This place was not very accessible, but at least they are making an effort to be accessible in the old building they are in.

Busch Stadium in St. Louis Missouri

September 9, 2012

we parked in a centerfield parking lot which had some handicap spots in front from here it was easy to get to the Stadium and close to our left-field seats in section 171. As I drove around the stadium I saw a lot of handicap seats that looked fairly easy to get to. The Stadium was fairly easy to get around it except by the centerfield gates around game time it got crowded. Our seats were right next to the family room bathrooms that two staff members told us about. The Hebrew national stand, which was right behind our section, was very helpful they brought my dog and chips around the stand and gave it to me and not just handing it to my mom. The Seats were great for access there was a fence a little behind so everyone would lean on that fence instead of being right on top of you.

All the chairs in the section were fold up chairs, so I didn't have to sit in a specific spot like some other stadiums that have some bolted down seats in the handicap section.

Erio's Ristorante - St. Peters, MO

September 8, 2012

This Italian restaurant shared parking lot with a strip mall. There was a handicapped spot fairly close that had a little loading zone I was able to get out of the Van because the next spot was empty; from there it wasn't too bad to get onto the sidewalk. This place has two doors that needed to be held at the same time which was little difficult to get into. Then I had to immediately turn into a narrow waiting area to get to the hostess station. Inside there was good plenty of space to get around. The Table was easy to get to and get under. Wherever I eat  I have to slide drink across the table because I can't lift it, but here I couldn't drag it across the surface of this table so I needed help getting my drink. The bathroom is pretty good maybe a little on the small side. When we got back out to the parking lot somebody was in the next spot, so we had to back out so I could get in the in the Van.

Old Town St. Charles Missouri

September 8, 2012

I knew that Old Town St. Charles would not be too handicap friendly since it is such an old place, but I wanted to see some of the old buildings. The sidewalks were pretty bad and rough to drive my wheelchair over. I could surprisingly get on and off the sidewalks at almost every block. Most of the stores we went past were inaccessible. We could have continued more through old town St. Charles but I was tired of driving over the rough sidewalks.

Katy trail and Lewis and Clark boathouse visitor center - St. Charles MO

September 8, 2012

Lewis and Clark boathouse visitor center

We parked near the Lewis and Clark boathouse where there was a big parking lot with plenty of handicap spots and for some reason that day they were mostly open parking spots. We just went in to the Lewis and Clark visitor center and gift shop to use the bathroom. To get to the gift shop and bathrooms we had to use the elevator which at the bottom it says to back in into the elevator which we weren't sure why since it didn't say. The mail lady that rode in the elevator of the elevator with us said it was so you didn’t back out of the elevator with your wheelchair and turn the wrong way you'd go down the stairs. So when we got to the top I came out front words and saw an open staircase on one side. In the gift shop it was really crowded and hard to get around. The bathroom was pretty difficult to use since there were two doors one into the bathroom and one into the stall which I needed both open at the same time and there was not enough room to do much.

Katy trail

This was near the Lewis and Clark boathouse where we parked.  There were great handicap bathrooms and family rooms. This was a nice trail, the part we walked on at least, with benches every so often and a nice paved trail.

Allin’s diner – St. Charles Missouri

September 8, 2012

This was a small diner and parking lot, but they did have a good handicap spot. It was a little tight inside and a little difficult to get to our table, but when I got parked at the table it was the perfect height and worked fine.

A’mis pizza - Webster Groves, MO

September 7, 2012

The parking was questionable but we were able to park okay. There is no way to get on the sidewalk near the place but a couple doors down for a little ramp to get on the sidewalk. The door was a little small, but okay. Then there was a skinny hall that went from the door of to the counter.  Most of the place was small and tight to get around. There was one table I could get to when we arrived because the dining room was pretty much full and the only empty table was the one we took but there might have been one or two that would be hard to get to. I didn't go to the bathroom so I don't know what that was like.

Cuba Area Chamber of Commerce - Cuba, Missouri

September 7, 2012

This was not too far off the interstate. There was really good parking right in front of the building and plenty of room around the spot which was right next to a ramp to get onto the sidewalk.  inside there was quite a bit of room to look around and all of travel information. The bathroom here was excellent with a huge stall that was easy to use. The paper towels and the sink worked great and I could even get my own paper towels and wash my hands without help.

September 7, 2012

There were two handicap spots in front that were full, so we parked in a spot and let our ramp out just to get unloaded.  Someone was about to park there but they parked elsewhere.   The front section of the restaurant was accessible the other part was up a step. The soup bar was close to where the door to the bathroom was.  It might be little difficult to get to the bathroom but I think it would've worked.   there was a bump/steep ramp thing at the doorway but I was able to get in.

Sleep Inn & Suites - Parsons, KS

9/5 and 9/6 2012

We were staying in Parsons Kansas, mostly so we could get fried chicken in Pittsburg Kansas which was nearby.

We stayed here a couple years ago and knew it had a handicap room with two queen beds. We knew it wasn't the greatest accessible room but it worked and there were not many other places to stay in the area anyways. There were two doors in the front of the building which were not automatic so I had to wait for help or go with somebody to get out. The Elevator was okay, kind of small but it worked alright. Our room was on the second floor and was close to the elevator, so that was nice. Inside the room it wasn't really spacious.

There was a long hallway from our door to the beds in the main part of the room, this worked okay by giving us places to park the hoyer lift and my wheelchair when I'm not in it.

The bathroom had enough room for me to get in and enough room around the toilet.

The sink I could not get under or use, I had to use the desk in the room that happened to have a mirror to brush my teeth. We couldn't get the lift under the bed so we had to slide me to the corner to be able to use the lift which wasn't great but it worked.

Subway Parsons, KS

Sept 6, 2012

Parking wasn't great, but we could get out of the van. One ramp to the sidewalk looked bad, but there was another place to get on.  Inside there was a lot of space to get around. Everything was just like a standard subway. The one table next to the door had the handicap logo and was completely open on one side with plenty of space around it, this worked great.

There were a couple of handicap parking spots, but were full both nights we were here.  It wasn’t real busy either night so there were plenty of other places to park next to empty spots.  There was no wheelchair access to the bathroom.  There was quite a bit of room everywhere else in the restaurant, so it was easy to get to our table and it worked fine.

Comfort Suites Salina KS

September 4, 2012

The parking was ok it was a little bit of an awkward parking lot, but the handicap spots were good.  The spot we needed was full.  In the morning this didn’t matter because we left kind of late in the morning.  The doors were automatic which makes it a lot easier to get in.  The front area and breakfast area looked like there was decent room and space to get around.  We had to use the elevator to the second floor which is where our handicap room was.

The room description said it had 2 queen beds and an accessible bathroom with a tub.

No roll in shower, but we were going to be in and out anyways.

This is what we got which was nice that it was what it said it was going to be because that hasn’t always been the case.  The bed was quite high, but we could get the hoyer lift under it, so I wouldn’t have to be moved so much when I got to the bed.

The sink worked well and so did the toilet.

In the door way to the bathroom it was flat unlike most places that have a bump right there.

Chili's Salina Kansas

September 4, 2012

There were a couple of handicap spots, one that was a van accessible that worked pretty well. The front area was easy to get into. Most of the tables I saw were really like mini booths and some regular size booths, but there were some tables.  The table we were seated at was a little low, so I couldn’t get completely under it.  We didn’t use the bathroom, so I don’t know what it was like.
