McDonald's, Globe Arizona

McDonald's, Globe Arizona

March 13, 2011

We stopped here for lunch on our way back home. The bathroom was not great but it worked, it had a enough room to get into and out. It was crowded inside; it may have been the only place in globe to eat. Many of the booths were closed which wouldn't have worked for me anyways since it wasn't wide enough for my wheelchair to get in. The only other place to sit that would work were tables with bolted down chairs that spun. If I came in from one end I could get under the table a little bit but then no one else had room to sit with me, so they sat at the next table.

Days Hotel, Mesa Arizona

Days Hotel, Mesa Arizona

March 6, 2011 through March 12, 2011

For the week that we're in Phoenix for spring training we stayed at the Days Hotel in Mesa Arizona. We always parked on the side of the building and had to go just around the side and follow the sidewalk to the door which wasn't too far. The door was not an automatic door, but most of the time it was propped open. In the lobby area there seemed to be plenty room, but there were never too many people there when we were there. The breakfast room had enough room to get around in it and the tables worked fine.

Our room which was a handicap room was on the third floor so we had to use the elevator. The room wasn't really huge and there were not very many places to put stuff so we just had to pile our stuff up when we went out for the day. There was enough room to get between the beds and could see the TV from there and was mostly out of everyone's way. The Hoyer lift couldn’t go under the bed so we had to slide me to the corner to get me up just like the other hotel we stayed at on the trip. The bathroom was good, and better than most since I could actually get in it with my wheelchair. There was some room around the toilet mostly on the right side of the toilet; the other side was kind of close to the wall. This made it a little hard for my parents to lock my shower/toilet chair so I wouldn't roll away but there was plenty of room on the other side so only one side got locked.

The sink wasn't the most accessible but at least I could get under it and use it, but there wasn't a lot of room for my parents to stand while helping me. The roll in shower worked okay it just was really small, we had to back me in and my feet were not in the shower and had to hang out. This wasn't the best roll in shower but it got the job done.

This wasn't the best hotel for accessibility, but I could do just about anything I needed to like use the sink and shower and get in and out of the building and the room.

Comfort Inn, Albuquerque New Mexico

March 5, 2011 and March 13, 2011

There was some handicap parking in front and fairly close to the door, but the door wasn't automatic. There wasn't a lot of room in the hotel just about every place the breakfast room, lobby and other areas seemed tight. The room as well was very tight with not much room to do anything, even getting my wheelchair between the two beds. We had to use the Hoyer lift by scooting me to the corner of the bed and then getting up from there. So basically there was just enough room to sleep and that's about it.

Grimaldi’s pizza, Gilbert Arizona

Grimaldi’s pizza, Gilbert Arizona

March 12, 2011

This was in a outdoor shopping mall, we parked in a handicapped spot that was not very close to the restaurant but it had plenty of room around it. There was also parking closer to the restaurant. We had about a 10 minute wait, so we checked out the bathroom. A couple of people had to scoot their chairs in for me to get to the bathroom and when we got there were high chairs stacked in the way. The inside was good there was enough room, the sink worked good but the paper towels were too high to reach. Our table worked well there was enough room around it and it was high enough for me to get my wheelchair under. The place was a little crowded since it was full that night.

This place was good except for the high chairs in the way of the bathroom.

McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Scottsdale AZ

McDowell Sonoran Preserve

March 12, 2011

The parking was very good with plenty of handicap spots that were all available. There is a sidewalk that goes up to the entrance that was very accessible and not real far. The bathrooms were excellent with a ton of room inside including the stall in the sink area. They have multiple trails, but only a half-mile trail that is wheelchair accessible. Another trail I looked at the beginning of got rough quick so we didn't take it. The half-mile trail was nice with multiple places to sit down and rest.

Everything at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve that was supposed to be accessible was very accessible but most of the trails were not.

Parking, bathroom, accessible trail EXCELLENT
The rest of the trails BAD

March 12, 2011

When we got here that handicap parking was full, so we parked out a ways next to a donation bin that was blocking part of the next spot.

There was only one ramp to get onto the sidewalk to the restaurant. When we got inside the place was full and we had to wait a little bit. There was plenty of room everywhere in the restaurant, in the waiting area, between the tables which made easy access to the bathroom which was a good bathroom that worked very well.

Joe's farm grill Gilbert Arizona

Joe's farm grill Gilbert Arizona
March 11, 2011

There was handicapped parking that would have worked in front, but we missed it, we parked partially in the spot and unloaded with space for other cars to get through, and then pulled back in. There were doors on both sides of the building, we went in the back. I did have a little trouble getting through the line, the posts with the rope type thing to keep people in line was a little hard to get through in some places. After you order at a window they give you a buzzer, and you have to go back up and carry your tray and fill your own drinks, which my parents could help me with. The table we sat at was partially outside, the table was a little low for me to get under it, I learned the hard way. They had two family type restrooms that were very accessible. They were excellent; they had plenty of room turn around and around the sink and toilet.

Haus Murphy’s

Update:

March 8, 2012

We returned to this place because of the food that we had a year ago, this time I had to go to the bathroom.  There was a chair that was a little bit in the way to get down the hall that led to the bathroom, but one of the staff members moved it. I was able to make it in to the bathroom, it wasn’t very big but it worked for me.  Everything else was the pretty much the same.

March 10, 2011

There was no parking at the place, but there was parking fairly close to the building. We parked around the corner, but it wasn't real far away though. We chose to sit inside, they asked inside or outside before we even went in the building. So they took this inside and moved the chair for me. There was enough room to get to the table, and I could get under it well.

Tempe Diablo Stadium

March 9, 2013 Update
We parked in a different parking lot this time and this hotel's parking lot which was up a steep hill and didn't want to drive my wheelchair down the hill, so we dropped me off and dad went and parked after talking to the attendant.

March 9, 2011

When we got to the parking lot they wanted us to back into the parking spot, but we couldn't since our ramp is on the right side of the van. So we just parked in the spot, and we were able with enough room to get out of the van. From there we had to drive/walk quite a ways to the will call window to get our tickets. This was at the bottom of steps up to the main gate. So we had to drive/walk most of the way back from where we started to go up the ramp to get in the third-base gate. The concourse area was not very big and I thought was very crowded. There were some family rooms which worked very well, and were very accessible. Our seats were on the first base side, and were in the sun for about the first three innings which made it very hot. After the shade came it was very comfortable.

Cracker Barrel Mesa, AZ

Cracker Barrel

March 9, 2011

This was your basic Cracker Barrel with a ton of handicap parking in front which happen to be full of the time. We parked out always in the parking lot where there is room to unload. When inside it can be a little crowded in the store part, but in the restaurant part there was plenty of room. The bathroom was also very nice plenty of room in the room and in the stall.

Los dos Molinos, Mesa, AZ

March 8, 2011

The Handicap Spots in front were taken we parked the other side of the parking lot, since we were early there was room to unload. There was also parking in the back. The first table we tried I couldn't get to it very well, so we took another table. The table was large and I couldn't get completely under it. Since the table was so big my parents had to get up to help me if I needed help. The bathroom had one room that had enough room.

Desert Botanical Gardens

Information in this post is Accurate as of March 6, 2013

March 8, 2011

There was good handicap parking with plenty of spots. The bathrooms worked okay. The one by the store was fairly good inside stall had enough room, and there was enough room around the sink but around the door there was a pop machine close to the door which made it a little harder to get into. The other bathroom we used was kind of crowded inside. There were plenty of trails throughout the garden, which were easy to use for me in my wheelchair. There were also places to sit every so often along the trails. The one place that was hard to get around was the butterfly house. I could get in fine but when inside many people would not look where they're going and cut me off all the time, it was also very crowded inside.

Crackers and company, Mesa, AZ

March 8, 2011 and March 10, 2011

There was excellent handicap parking on the side of the building with plenty of room for our ramp. Then we had to follow sidewalk around to the front which was fine for me with my power wheelchair. The place was easy to get into with enough room in the front area as well as easy access to our table as well as many other tables. The bathroom would have worked for me, but I might've had trouble getting between all the tables but I didn't try.

Monti's La Casa Vieja

March 7, 2011
This place was really old which made it less accessible. The parking was in the back with multiple handicap spots that worked fine for us. The floor inside was rough, which made it a little to bumpy for me to drive on comfortably. To get to the bathroom we had to go through the bar, and a lady at the bar had to move for me to get through. When we got to the bathroom stall was not big enough for me to get into, so I had to park in front of it to go which kind of blocked most of the bathroom. When we finally ate the table was fine to get to, and I was able to get under it well.

Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, Scottsdale, AZ

March 8, 2011

There were multiple parking lots, the one we parked in had only a handful of handicaped spots, that were full when we go there, but there was space with more than one spot that we park in and unloaded before parked next to us.  Then from the parking lot you had to walk a distance past the practice fields and batting cages to the stadium, but in my power chair it was just a large sidewalk to drive on that was uphill a little.  Inside the stadium was very accessible, there was a few steps here and there like just inside one of the entrances, but there were ramps to get everywhere, which I thought made me go the long way around, and a little out of the way, but I could get there.  The store was crowded, and difficult to move around for me.  They had many family restrooms that were excellent, with plenty of room inside.

There was handicap parking right up in front, with plenty of room.  There was also plenty of room inside, with the counter easy to get to.  The table was an accessible table, and worked really well, without the post in the way.  I did not see how the bathroom was.

newer review

The handicapped parking was in front of next building, but had enough room.  The place was full and crowded.  They took a number to a table for us and made sure I could get to and use the table.  the counter was easy to get to, it was a little crowded so I went around the long way to get to the table.  table was a little low for me to get under.  They do bring the food out to your table, but you do have to fill your own drinks, which my parents could do for me.

March 6, 2011

There were no spots really close to park, we parked at handicap parking in front of next store.  the building was a little older, there was enough room to get through the restaurant and the table worked fine.  The bathroom was a little hard to get in, I had to go in and turn right away, it also didn't have a ton of room.
