Uncles Pizzeria - Fort Collins, CO

May 22, 2012

 Not Wheelchair Accessible

A friend and I were thinking about pizza for lunch so we came here ready for pizza. When we got there, there were a couple of steps up to a sidewalk like area in front of the door.  So we figured if I could get on the sidewalk at the other end, by the next store which was fed ex kinkos, we could come back to Uncles.  This is what I’ve had to do at many different places.

When we got back close to Uncles we realized I wasn’t going to be able to get there with my wheelchair because there was fence like thing blocking the sidewalk.  So we went across the street to Taste of Philly, which I knew was accessible.

Nicks Diner - surprise Arizona

March 10, 2012

We parked across the parking lot at a handicap spot next to churches chicken which they were not busy at all. There was a good sidewalk that was very easy to get onto and it was easy to get in the door. It was crowded in the place with people waiting.  There wasn't really too much room to do anything. I went to the bathroom while we were waiting which was not too bad to get to and decent inside.  This wasn’t the best, but was okay with not quite enough room but pretty much worked. When they seated us they wanted to know if I could get to one of the tables, but I couldn’t get to it so they asked someone else who was seated just ahead of us if they would move to the other table which they said was fine. This table worked fine.

El bravo - Phoenix Arizona

Information in this post is Accurate as of March 7, 2013

March 9, 2012

When we arrived there was one handicap spot that was full and the parking lot overall was kind of awkward but we parked in a spot next to an open spot so we could have on lot on lot unload I went in planning to use the restroom.  I followed along down the hall where the bathrooms were, but there was a tight turn and there is no way I get my wheelchair to the bathroom. There was also nowhere to turn around so I had to back my wheelchair back down the hall to get out.  So we had to go out in the car again. Everything else was pretty easy to handle as there was plenty of room to get around and the table worked fine.

Salt River field at talking stick - Scottsdale Arizona

March 10, 2013 update

Our seats this year were good, but they were in the shade on a cool day. The family access room down the first base side was excellent there was more than enough space.  The one in right field was great but not as big.  The sinks in the bathrooms were excellent and the paper towels were easy to get to and I could pretty much use the bathroom by myself.

Most of the place was the same as last year, but this year we had seats that were closer to the field and were on the third base side of home plate. But to get to our seats I had to drive down multiple ramps down the third base side to get down there which seem like forever which wasn't too bad for me just kind of annoying, but somebody with a walker or somebody that can’t walk down the steps would have a lot of trouble getting there. There were two concession areas where we could get to without having to go all the way up at each end of the to first base and third base side. At each end there were also family accessible restrooms which usually had a line of able-bodied people waiting to use it.  This was just kind of annoying since they can go up the steps. But it did work well and was very accessible.

Butterfields pancake house - Scottsdale Arizona

Information in this post is Accurate as of March 7, 2013

March 9, 2012

There were some handicap parking spots but they were all full and we parked out ways where there was room.  It was easy to get onto the sidewalk which came around to the front.  When we got to the front there were people waiting outside and inside the place was packed so while we waited, I went to check out the bathroom. The restrooms were down a long hall, this bathroom worked very well with plenty of room.  The sink was good and I was able to use it and I could also actually reach and get the paper towels out by myself.   Our table worked good there were some booths that wouldn’t have worked for us but most of the tables would work.

Japanese friendship Garden - Phoenix Arizona

March 8, 2012

This was an interesting place that was located on top of interstate 10. When you get to the garden it is very accessible. The parking lot was very good with multiple handicap spots right up front.   You have to go into the modular building next to the parking lot and the gate to pay your admission but it had a ramp up to the building. This is where their store was, but there was basically only enough room for me to go in and come back down. In the garden it was very accessible there was one main loop that wasn’t really too long but it was fully accessible. There were also benches every so often. There were a couple of trails that took off from the main loop that were not Wheelchair accessible. The bathrooms were new and were very nice except it was little difficult for me to use the sink, but there was plenty of room.

Hampton Inn and suites happy Valley - Phoenix Arizona

For the week of March 6th we stayed at this hotel.

In October we had booked a room at this hotel which was supposed to be a two Queen room with a roll in shower which is what we need if I want to shower and if I don't want to sleep with my parents.  After our last vacation in Milwaukee at the comfort suites where they didn't have a roll in shower in the room my mom made sure to ask at the front desk if there was a roll in shower in the room and they said yes it did. So after having this happen multiple times in different hotels we weren’t totally sure that it would have what we needed. We got to the room and there was a ton of space, right when you walk in the door it's kind of a kitchen area which was nice but when you come around the corner there was a king bed and a rollaway bed.

So much for relaxing trip with limited problems. So we went back out to complain and they said that they changed the room types and they had and didn't have two Queens with a roll in shower rooms anymore.  Just the king rooms had roll in showers, which would've been nice if they could've let us know ahead of time, so we might be able to find a different place that would work better. The room was huge and we thought they should be able to bring in a queen sized bed in, but they said that they couldn't do that.

So they said they would see what they could do and call around and see what other options there were. So after a while they called our room and said that my parents could move to another room and I could have that room to myself. This would not work at all because I need help, and could need help at any moment during the night.  I also don't think my parents wanted to be in the hall in their underwear. They also found the Homewood suites that had a king and two Queens with a roll in shower that we could move to in a few days which would kind of be a pain especially for us having my hoyer lift and my shower chair and a bunch of other stuff to move, so we really didn't want to have to do that. They also said that the couch would pullout to make the bed, but my parents didn't want to sleep on the couch. So they brought in another single rollaway bed. I was not able to get into the rollaway bed because it was too low and we couldn’t get our lift under it. So I got the king bed and my parents had matching rollaway beds. My dad was also too tall to fit the bed so he had to push it up against the couch. The king bed which I slept in you would think would be great at least for me, but if I got too much in the middle it was hard for anybody to reach me to roll me over or help me, so that was kind of a pain but I guess you have to do what you have to do. Besides all these problems the room was actually very accessible if you only need a king bed.

The roll in shower was great and was big and was very easy to get into and use. The toilet was easy to get to and had a good amount of room around it except maybe on the left side of it, it was a little bit closer the wall.

The sink was okay I still couldn't turn the water on since there was a bump out to make it handicapped accessible so I couldn't reach the faucet but if some could turn it on it worked okay. When I tried to brush my teeth where I usually prop my elbow there wasn't anything to set my elbow on because where I put my elbow is to the right of where the bump out was, so I brushed my teeth in the kitchen part which was also an accessible sink that I could get under but without the bump out. There was also a rather large closet and a large room I couldn't quite get under the table in the room but I could still kind of use it. There were also quite a few handicap parking spots in front which was nice and there always was at least one spot open with the loading zone on the right side of the car. Driving my wheelchair to the door there was bumpy stuff in the cement that was kind of annoying to drive over. The doors in front were automatic doors which was very nice.  The main area in the front was spacious and very easy to get through.

I just don’t know what to think about these hotel problems we have run into, I am just not sure why, when we book a room with the specific accommodations that we need and they say they have,  we don’t get what we booked.

Deer Valley Rock Art Center Phoenix, AZ

March 7, 2012

There was very good handicap parking and plenty of space to get out of the van. The bathrooms are right in front before you actually go in the main building and the bathroom was good and had enough room for me to do everything I needed to. The trail was okay there were no major problems on the main trail places little bumpy but not too bad. Inside the building it was very easy to get around, but there was not much in it.

Chino Bandido Phoenix Arizona

March 8, 2012

This was actually a place I saw on diners drive-ins and dives on food network. There was a good handicap spot next place in the strip mall which we parked at and worked fine. There's room in the front of the building.  How you order is quite different than most places they have forms that you basically fill out to order which was interesting, but was fine for me.  The counter was kind of high but my mom was paying.  After you order you sit where you want and someone brings your food out to you. They bring out the food in foil plate type things. I didn't use the bathrooms but you could see them off the dining room.

Feeney's Restaurant and Bar - Phoenix AZ

Information in this post is Accurate as of March 6, 2013

March 7, 2012

Parking was kind of a pain there were one or two handicap spots that were full.   We were early, so we were able to park in back.  There was only one way into the lot in the back which was also the way out. It was not to bad getting into place maybe a little tight around the door area.  Our table worked fine and was easy enough to get to. We ordered and figured we could get to the bathroom and make it back in time for our food, but I couldn't get into the restroom.  There was a sharp turn into a small door so there was no way to get in.  So we had to go out to the van which was unfortunate.  If you don’t need the bathroom, the rest of the place was ok and the food was great.

The good egg - Phoenix Arizona

March 7, 2012

The handicapped parking was full in front of the building so we parked next to the next building where I could get on the sidewalk. I was following the sidewalk to the restaurant and I came to a post where the sidewalk was too narrow, so I had to go all the way back and drive through the parking lot. When I finally got close to the door there was a ramp to get on the sidewalk which worked okay. Inside the place was crowded in front. There were limited tables that would work for us somewhere up steps or booths They seated us at a table that worked good.
