Drury Inn and Suites - St. Louis Missouri

September 7 through September 12

For our stay in St. Louis we stayed at the Drury Inn and suites in the Hill neighborhood, mostly because they supposedly had a room with two queens and roll in shower.   And it happened to be a nice central location for what we wanted to do.  Some of the time we parked in the parking garage underneath the hotel.  This wasn't a real big garage but there were some parking spots including two handicap spots in front of the door, one of them was a van accessible spot. For that door you had to use your room key to enter but it was close to the elevator. The elevator was nice and big and easy to turn around in, this elevator also talked by telling you if you're going up or down and what floor you are at. A Little down the hall from the elevator was our room, I think our room was on the 2nd floor.

With our past hotel experiences, even though the room was supposed to be two queens with a roll in shower, that was the first thing we checked to make sure that was right and it was. This was great that we didn't have to worry about the bed and shower situation.

This was not the most spacious room but there was more room than most hotels give you. There were multiple places where I could sit and watch TV or do whatever at the desk. There was a recliner and a little place to sit. There was kind of a hall from the door to the rest of the room which was nice to set stuff. In the bathroom the toilet had good enough space around it and worked fine.

The Sink was okay but I needed help turning on the faucet.

The roll in shower was great with the handheld showerhead, that happened to brake the first night during my shower but maintenance took care of it quickly the next day. There were quite a few handicap parking spots near all of the doors. The front door was easy to use since it has automatic doors and a ton of space in the front area of the hotel and the breakfast room, which I never made it down for. It was also really easy to get to the elevator from there as well.

City Coffeehouse & Crêperie Clayton, MO

September 12, 2012

There was a parking garage around the corner that was the closest place to park, it seemed like a low roof and it was kind of dark. This wasn't the greatest, but it worked. Once we walked around the corner it was easy to get in place. It was a little crowded where you order. The line goes toward the corner where there's not a ton of space to get back out of the line easily especially specially in a wheelchair. Our table worked fine. The bathroom is back in the same corner behind the line so you just about have to stand in the food line to get to the bathroom. When i got to the bathroom I had to drive past the door so someone could open it for me then I could backup a little and get in.

Ted Drewes frozen custard St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

I don't think there were any handicap spots. The bathroom was not very big and the handicapped stall was not big enough for me to get into. this is a walk-up custard place which is easy enough to get up to the window and order. There are no tables, you just have to stand or sit and eat the custard.

Mama Josephine's St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

You can't exactly park real close, but we parked down the street a bit. When we drove past it was like a bump at the door but when we got there I figured out that it was only on one side when we got to the door the other side looked like at some point they put some cement in to make it like a ramp to make it accessible. Inside just about any table would work well. The bathroom is right off the dining room and worked surprisingly well for an old building, maybe not the best bathroom but a lot better than I expected.

Missouri botanical Gardens St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

There were many handicap spots with plenty of room to unload from there it was easy to get to the main building. Inside was good there was plenty of room to easily navigate the building. In The bathroom right up front by the door there was one handicap stall that was not very big, but the sinks were easy to get to and use, this was just like the other bathrooms as well.

The garden part was rather large and we didn't come close to seeing everything.  Most of the trails and paths were wheelchair accessible, except a few places. There were also many benches and places to sit down. The gift shop was a little hard to get around in some places, but not any worse than most gift shops.

La Pizza St. Louis Missouri

September 11, 2012

This is mostly a takeout pizza place with a few tables but it was not accessible for wheelchairs since there are two steps in front. I heard they had really good pizza so we ate it in the van which was quite an adventure and harder than I thought it would be, but sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

Highway 61 roadhouse St. Louis Missouri

September 10, 2012

I didn't see much handicap parking but there was space to unload out always in the lot. There was a little bit of a bump at the door but I could get in. there was enough space inside and around the tables and just about everywhere. The table worked well for me. The bathroom is all the way back in the corner by the bar right behind where two or three staff members were standing when I got there, it was a little bit difficult to get there, but it was a really good bathroom when I got there and worked well.

September 10, 2012

This rest area had a great family room on both sides of the interstate but there was no automatic door or handicap button to open the door that I noticed. Parking was good.

Epic pizza and sub's St. Louis Missouri

September 9, 2012

I asked on Facebook before we went to make sure they were accessible they said they were I had to go through I tap which is next door. We parked in a parking spot about a block away It was not a handicap spot, but was at the end of the block where no one could parked next to it. This was Sunday night and was very easy to park since there wasn't a lot of traffic. When we arrived at the place my dad just went in and asked how we get in with a wheelchair since there are two steps in front. They said they would let next door know and someone would be out to let us in their patio gate.

In not too long someone came out and said the gate was locked and the only person had a key was the manager who was out of town. So this guy said he could help lift me to get in, but he didn't look like the type that could lift 600 pounds. Then he said there was a garage door in the back that we could get in. So we go down the sidewalk to the end of the block, then to get to the back alley for the garage door I either had to drive down the middle of the street or go through the rough grass. I chose the grass which was a little rough but there wasn't too much to go over.

When we get to the alley where sure enough there is a garage door which was quite easy to get through. After we got inside I saw the bathroom and figured it looks like I get in and might as well use it before I got stuck somewhere else. I tap and epic Share a bathroom which is in between them and surprisingly it was very accessible. everything worked great including a big stall and quite a bit of space throughout. Then we went into the epic pizza and subs part and there was a step down in, so I thought great what do we do now.  About that time the manager brought out a portable ramp which worked great. After this it was easy enough to get to the counter to order and they bring everything to you, your drink and food.

The was table so high that it was really awkward to eat off of, so I needed a lot of help eating like helping me get my drink and figure out how to get my burger to my mouth. There were a lot of things to deal with to eat at this place, but after the burger it was well worth it. On the way out we went out the other way to the other end of the block where there was a sidewalk, which would've been the way to go in the first place instead of through the grass.

This place was not very accessible, but at least they are making an effort to be accessible in the old building they are in.

Busch Stadium in St. Louis Missouri

September 9, 2012

we parked in a centerfield parking lot which had some handicap spots in front from here it was easy to get to the Stadium and close to our left-field seats in section 171. As I drove around the stadium I saw a lot of handicap seats that looked fairly easy to get to. The Stadium was fairly easy to get around it except by the centerfield gates around game time it got crowded. Our seats were right next to the family room bathrooms that two staff members told us about. The Hebrew national stand, which was right behind our section, was very helpful they brought my dog and chips around the stand and gave it to me and not just handing it to my mom. The Seats were great for access there was a fence a little behind so everyone would lean on that fence instead of being right on top of you.

All the chairs in the section were fold up chairs, so I didn't have to sit in a specific spot like some other stadiums that have some bolted down seats in the handicap section.

Erio's Ristorante - St. Peters, MO

September 8, 2012

This Italian restaurant shared parking lot with a strip mall. There was a handicapped spot fairly close that had a little loading zone I was able to get out of the Van because the next spot was empty; from there it wasn't too bad to get onto the sidewalk. This place has two doors that needed to be held at the same time which was little difficult to get into. Then I had to immediately turn into a narrow waiting area to get to the hostess station. Inside there was good plenty of space to get around. The Table was easy to get to and get under. Wherever I eat  I have to slide drink across the table because I can't lift it, but here I couldn't drag it across the surface of this table so I needed help getting my drink. The bathroom is pretty good maybe a little on the small side. When we got back out to the parking lot somebody was in the next spot, so we had to back out so I could get in the in the Van.
