Subway/ loves convenience store, Gallup New Mexico

Subway/ loves convenience store, Gallup New Mexico

March 13, 2011

The parking was okay basic gas station parking. It wasn't the easiest place to get into but it worked. The restroom was great there was a ton of room inside the bathroom and multiple handicap stalls, the sinks were easy to use as well.

We walked over toward the subway part and realized there was no table for me to sit at. They just have booths that I can't get into and tables with bolted down seats that were not movable. After my experience at lunch at the McDonald's in globe we decided to leave and go elsewhere.

We ended up driving through Gallup, New Mexico and found another subway which worked okay, but has since closed.

McDonald's, Globe Arizona

McDonald's, Globe Arizona

March 13, 2011

We stopped here for lunch on our way back home. The bathroom was not great but it worked, it had a enough room to get into and out. It was crowded inside; it may have been the only place in globe to eat. Many of the booths were closed which wouldn't have worked for me anyways since it wasn't wide enough for my wheelchair to get in. The only other place to sit that would work were tables with bolted down chairs that spun. If I came in from one end I could get under the table a little bit but then no one else had room to sit with me, so they sat at the next table.

Days Hotel, Mesa Arizona

Days Hotel, Mesa Arizona

March 6, 2011 through March 12, 2011

For the week that we're in Phoenix for spring training we stayed at the Days Hotel in Mesa Arizona. We always parked on the side of the building and had to go just around the side and follow the sidewalk to the door which wasn't too far. The door was not an automatic door, but most of the time it was propped open. In the lobby area there seemed to be plenty room, but there were never too many people there when we were there. The breakfast room had enough room to get around in it and the tables worked fine.

Our room which was a handicap room was on the third floor so we had to use the elevator. The room wasn't really huge and there were not very many places to put stuff so we just had to pile our stuff up when we went out for the day. There was enough room to get between the beds and could see the TV from there and was mostly out of everyone's way. The Hoyer lift couldn’t go under the bed so we had to slide me to the corner to get me up just like the other hotel we stayed at on the trip. The bathroom was good, and better than most since I could actually get in it with my wheelchair. There was some room around the toilet mostly on the right side of the toilet; the other side was kind of close to the wall. This made it a little hard for my parents to lock my shower/toilet chair so I wouldn't roll away but there was plenty of room on the other side so only one side got locked.

The sink wasn't the most accessible but at least I could get under it and use it, but there wasn't a lot of room for my parents to stand while helping me. The roll in shower worked okay it just was really small, we had to back me in and my feet were not in the shower and had to hang out. This wasn't the best roll in shower but it got the job done.

This wasn't the best hotel for accessibility, but I could do just about anything I needed to like use the sink and shower and get in and out of the building and the room.

Comfort Inn, Albuquerque New Mexico

Comfort Inn, Albuquerque New Mexico

March 5, 2011 and March 13, 2011

There was some handicap parking in front and fairly close to the door, but the door wasn't automatic. There wasn't a lot of room in the hotel just about every place the breakfast room, lobby and other areas seemed tight. The room as well was very tight with not much room to do anything, even getting my wheelchair between the two beds. We had to use the Hoyer lift by scooting me to the corner of the bed and then getting up from there. So basically there was just enough room to sleep and that's about it.

Grimaldi’s pizza, Gilbert Arizona

Grimaldi’s pizza, Gilbert Arizona

March 12, 2011

This was in a outdoor shopping mall, we parked in a handicapped spot that was not very close to the restaurant but it had plenty of room around it. There was also parking closer to the restaurant. We had about a 10 minute wait, so we checked out the bathroom. A couple of people had to scoot their chairs in for me to get to the bathroom and when we got there were high chairs stacked in the way. The inside was good there was enough room, the sink worked good but the paper towels were too high to reach. Our table worked well there was enough room around it and it was high enough for me to get my wheelchair under. The place was a little crowded since it was full that night.

This place was good except for the high chairs in the way of the bathroom.

McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Scottsdale AZ

McDowell Sonoran Preserve

March 12, 2011

The parking was very good with plenty of handicap spots that were all available. There is a sidewalk that goes up to the entrance that was very accessible and not real far. The bathrooms were excellent with a ton of room inside including the stall in the sink area. They have multiple trails, but only a half-mile trail that is wheelchair accessible. Another trail I looked at the beginning of got rough quick so we didn't take it. The half-mile trail was nice with multiple places to sit down and rest.

Everything at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve that was supposed to be accessible was very accessible but most of the trails were not.

Parking, bathroom, accessible trail EXCELLENT
The rest of the trails BAD

When we got here that handicap parking was full, so we parked out a ways next to a donation bin that was blocking part of the next spot.

There was only one ramp to get onto the sidewalk to the restaurant. When we got inside the place was full and we had to wait a little bit. There was plenty of room everywhere in the restaurant, in the waiting area, between the tables which made easy access to the bathroom which was a good bathroom that worked very well.

Rancho De Tia Rosas

March 11, 2011

There was handicap parking near the front, not right up against the restaurant but still close. There was enough room in the entrance area and in the rest of the restaurant. Our table was next to a window to the patio which looked fairly accessible as well. The table had enough space around it and I could get under it well. The bathroom was good it was a huge and it was a little tight around the sink area. The stall was actually quite big with more than enough space.
